It was a weekend trip to a health show in Toronto that led the Bender family to begin their two-decade long journey to bring healthier eating and healthier living to the town of New Hamburg.
The date was November 1st, 1981 when the doors first opened at Town Pantry. This represented a dream come true for Eileen Bender. That of owning her very own business. While Eileen always had an interest in clean eating and healthy living, it had not come to the forefront of her mind until that fateful day in Toronto.
This was also true for 2nd owners Alex and Mina Mamdani and their son Abid, who almost two decades after the store had been opened, made the intrepid journey from Los Angeles to Ontario to faithfully mind the shop before moving back to the US close to 15 years later.
That move created the opportunity for present day owner Farah and her parents Moe and Roze Ramji to call New Hamburg home. Coming from a city like Toronto proved to be challenging initially but the gorgeous small town and its warmhearted people did not take long to get used to.
